Meet the Team 2019 — Jim
With just over a week before the 2019 sailing season gets underway, we will be introducing you to the team here at the Trinity Sailing Foundation. Today we met up with Jim…
What is your role at Trinity?
I am the skipper of Golden Vanity.
What are you most looking forward about the coming season?
I am looking forward to a season of working with an energetic team, to the varied challenges of sailing the smaller of the Trinity gaff-rigged trawlers and leading groups on adventures by sea.
What’s your best piece of advice for someone who has never been sailing before?
Come dressed for the weather not the catwalk. Immerse yourself totally in every aspect of the journey and don’t be surprised if it changes your life plans!
Which is your favourite vessel in the Trinity fleet?
Blimey! They’ve all got their charms and their foibles. Ask me that one in October!
When you’re not sailing, what else do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy mountains and islands, especially those of our native North West coast. I am a climber and sea kayaker. With my wife, we are also in the early stages of rebuilding a 1977 original ‘Joshua’ — a steel ketch designed by the infamous sailor and circumnavigator Bernard Moitissier. I don’t anticipate being idle any time soon.
