Adventure sailing courses and holidays
If you are undertaking your Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and looking for something a little bit different, then any of our sailing voyages can qualify as your Gold Residential. We offer special D of E sailing voyages or you could combine the challenge of The Tall Ships Races, an Adventure Sailing voyage or an RYA course with your residential.
Offshore sailing offers you the opportunity to prove that you can master a full range of new skills in a challenging environment. You may even be going home with an internationally recognized “Competent Crew” qualification from the Royal Yachting Association, always great to add to your record of achievement!
What will my D of E voyage involve?
Seven days and six nights sailing the fantastic coastlines of Devon, Cornwall, Brittany and the Channel Islands. These sailing holidays offer the perfect opportunity to broaden your experiences in a residential setting — working with fellow crewmates under the direction of the skipper and mate. You will participate in all aspects of the voyage from putting up sails, helming, cleaning, navigating, keeping watch or cooking. It is a great opportunity to try something completely different, meet new people, make new friends, work as a team and learn lots of new skills.
Skipper Matt adds: “A week with us on Golden Vanity gives you the chance to really get to grips with the ‘essentials’ of sailing a traditional gaff-rigged vessel. Once you have mastered these skills you will be far better placed to step on board more modern yachts with lighter rigs.
Our D of E adventure voyages are a really fun way of learning to sail and at the end of a great day’s offshore sailing, we might stop off in a cove for a swim or barbecue or go ashore to explore a new town or go beach-combing.
We know that funding your residential can be a tough job, so for 2013 we have introduced a special D of E rate which we think is really good value – we hope you agree!
