Bosuns Required – Have You Got What it Takes? Posted on

The Trinity Sailing Foundation is on the look out for two new crucial crew members to work on board their historic vessels.

One of the positions would be on board Provident, the other on Leader, however the successful candidates will have opportunities to spend time on each of the vessels as part of their role.

Trinity Sailing Foundation operate three historic wooden sailing vessels undertaking a mixture of youth sail training voyages and adult sailing holidays between April and October, the remainder of the year being taken up with refit and maintenance tasks. Our vessels operate around the UK coast with trips to neighbouring countries as appropriate to our sailing schedule.

The Bosun is responsible for extensive maintenance tasks, sail handling, acting as coxswain of the ships tender, working closely with and teaching both young trainees and adult clients, assisting the cook in the galley, working aloft in the rigging and numerous other challenging activities.

Operations Manager Ben Wheatley said: “We will provide training and development opportunities on board our vessels and will endeavour to assist those who wish to aim for paid positions within the industry in due course. This training includes the opportunity to work towards completion of RYA certificates.

“This opportunity would be ideally suited to a gap year student or someone who wishes to take their first steps in the sail training industry.”
