‘Leader’ to feature in the Channel 4 series ‘How Britain Worked’ Posted on

The project to restore the historic Brixham trawler ‘Leader’ will form the centerpiece of Episode 5 in the Channel 4 series ‘How Britain worked’ with presenter Guy Martin, the famous motorcycle racer and avid mechanic.

Guy has been visiting Brixham since the start of the project and as someone who is never shy of ‘rolling up his sleeves’, Guy has been working with our shipwrights, staff and volunteers to gain hands-on experience of the traditional skills used during the restoration project (this photo shows Guy and one of the shipwrights preparing a new oak beam).

The £250,000 project to restore Leader, part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, was completed earlier this year and the programme will feature footage and photos of the work underway in Brixham harbour through to the final stages when she was restored to her former glory and was once again undertaking sailing holidays.

The programme on Leader is aired this Sunday (18th November) at 8pm and is the second last in this popular series, produced by North One Television, which has featured Guy helping to restore iconic machines or buildings from Britain’s industrial past. Make sure you don’t miss it!

For more information on the series please visit Channel 4. If you want to find out more about Leader’s programme of sailing holidays in 2013, please click here

Santander Foundation supports Trinity’s work with young people Posted on

Trinity Sailing Foundation boosted by Community Plus donation from Santander Foundation

Trinity is delighted to announce it has received a £5,000 grant from the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative. The grant has been awarded to support our work with young people by providing funding for essential equipment such as life jackets and waterproof clothing used during sail training courses and sailing holidays.

Toby Russell from Trinity said: We are delighted with the support of the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative and  would like to thank the staff from our local branch and their customers for enabling this to happen. The funding will be used to buy new sets of life jackets and waterproof’s which are naturally very important pieces of kit for young people who undertake an offshore sail training course. Its great news that local people have been able to back a local charity, and over the following years this funding will help thousands of  young people”.

Elaine Anscombe at Santander’s Brixham branch said: “Community Plus allows our staff and customers to nominate local charities that are most in need of assistance.  We are delighted to be supporting Trinity and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
